Superb summer run for ‘Golden Girls’

Bingo winners take home almost $500 each

Drag performers Tom Catt and Toni Homeperm headlined a five-show run at the Boulton Center in Bay Shore with their hilarious impersonation of mother/daughter duo, Dorothy Zbornak and Sophia Petrillo.

Throughout the night there were references to the nitty-gritty details of the popular 80s sitcom, The Golden Girls, the geriatric pre-cursor to Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda.

From a pamphlet featuring ex-husband and perpetual klutz Stanley and a vast collection of the “men of Blanche’s budoir,” even non-fans of the Golden Girls could find incredible humor in the delivery and interpretation of Catt and Homeperm.

A bingo night, there were five rounds with the winner of each taking home about $500 each. Before distributing the funds, Catt and Homeperm offered decidedly horrible alternate prizes to the cash including what was described as a cookie made of some mixture of offal from St. Olaf.

The packed audience was the largest of the performances with notably many audience members coming back for a second showing.

Reincarnating the spirit of the Golden Girls, Catt and Homeperm delighted the audience with renditions of new music to add to the Dorothy/Sophia schtick including what turned into a sing-along of Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers.”

The Dorothy and Sophia routine has grown in popularity across Long Island because of the dedication to character, brilliant nuance, and quarterback/lineman chemistry Homeperm and Catt possess.
