Student of the month

Taylor Metzler, a senior at Center Moriches High School, was named the March Moriches Chamber of Commerce Business Student of the Month.

Taylor is actively involved in sports and extracurricular activities and is in the top 20 of her class. Taylor is a member of the National Honor Society, English Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Social Studies Honor Society.  

She is on the varsity girls lacrosse team. As a varsity lacrosse player, she has been awarded to the All-Rookie team (10th grade), Extra Effort Award (10th grade), and Section XI All Tournament Award (11th grade).

In 2022, her lacrosse team won the Suffolk County Championships, Class D for Center Moriches. Recently, Taylor attended the Section XI Student Athlete Leadership Conference. 

Taylor is an active Girl Scout and has earned her Silver Award focusing on how to prevent bullying in elementary schools. She and her fellow Girls Scouts created a video to share with the fifth-grade students at Clayton Huey Elementary and were able to create a whole week of activities. 

She has attended various community service events with her troop, such as holiday shopping/gift wrapping for the Center Moriches Community Center and Helping Makes U Happy, as well as volunteering at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church. 

Taylor also volunteers for MYO during the winter months at the youth girls lacrosse clinics (K-6) to help young players develop their skills.

Taylor will be attending Bloomsburg University in the fall, where she will be playing DII Women’s Lacrosse and will be pursuing a degree in finance.
