On the morning of Sunday, May 5, gloomy skies and ominous clouds threatened to rain all day through the Islip Street Fair. Yet the rain miraculously held off until later in the evening, allowing residents from Islip hamlet and beyond to enjoy fun for the whole family on Main Street.

The 24th annual Islip Street Fair, which was held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., is organized by the Islip Chamber of Commerce. Since it was founded in 1924, the Islip Chamber of Commerce has strived to improve the hamlet through beautification, promotion, and community activity. With vendors galore set up along Montauk Highway from South Bay Avenue to Smith Avenue, and businesses on the road joining in on the fun, the chamber certainly lived up to its goal of providing exciting community activity!

“The community really comes together, plus neighboring communities. People come from all over,” shared Liz Mayott, president of the Islip Chamber of Commerce. “This would not be possible without help from our community.”

Food trucks of all shapes and sizes lined the street, including trucks serving Dang! BBQ, Señor Burger, Vincent’s Wood Fired Pizza, Donut NV, and Bad Smoothies food truck. Among businesses that took their services outside to participate in the street fair were JMJ Hair Studio, Growin’ Shade, and The Harp and Hound.

Additional organizations and businesses that participated in the street fair include CM Performing Arts Center, Keep Islip Clean, Dance Connection, Northwell Health Billy Moon Foundation, and so many more.

Attendees were further entertained by live music by The Tradewinds, raffles at the Islip Chamber of Commerce booth, and carnival games. With street fair season finally underway, kicking off with a strong start, Long Island residents are certainly in for a treat this summer!
