The old roof at the Medford VFW 2937 Hall, located at 507 Long Island Avenue in Medford, was recently replaced over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The efforts to restore the roof were led by Suffolk County Legis. Dominick Thorne, who helped raise the money and labor donations for a project at no cost to the veterans or taxpayer. Both the legislator and the VFW veterans now plan to fundraise for solar panels to be installed. As of now, Thorne said, they have a commitment for free design and installation. The only remaining cost is the panels. Past commander Walter Maresco said the post is eager to have the panels installed, noting it will be cost saving and a huge relief for the vets. As for the roof, he said it looks beautiful and he was pleased with how quickly the work was done.
