Runners arrived at the Bay Shore Marina early Saturday morning to participate in the 39th annual Northwell Health Great South Bay Run, which features three USATF-certified run courses. Athletes were invited to take part in a half marathon, a 5K course, or a 10K course.

The event was sponsored by Northwell Health, The Town of Islip, Empower Solar, and Reign Total Body Fuel. Money raised during the event benefits South Shore University Hospital’s heart and lung programs, home to the Entenmann Family Cardiac Center.

All the racers followed similar courses that took them around Bay Shore and Brightwaters. The start and end were at the Town of Islip Bay Shore Marina. From there, athletes ran downtown through Main Street and residential areas. Runners were also treated to scenic routes consisting of nature and historic sights.

Those running in the half marathon and the 10K ran by South Shore University Hospital and the Fire Island Ferries. Along with a 5K race, there was a 5K jogging stroller run/walk with no placements. Those who couldn’t attend could participate in a virtual mile.

As athletes began returning to the starting line, attendees were invited to a post-race party filled with fun and celebration for all! Once the races concluded, awards were presented for each race category.
