Acoustic duo Martin & Lucas will bring their take on hits from the ‘60s to the ‘90s to the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, July 25, as part of the theater’s Alive in the Lobby program.

Martin & Lucas is the husband-and-wife team of Patchogue residents Michele Martin Lucas and Steve Lucas. They are both Patchogue-Medford High School alumni. Steve, 44, graduated in 1997. Michele, 39, graduated in 2003.

Steve, who started his music career playing the saxophone at age 9, sings and plays guitar. Michele, who took up the guitar at age 16, sings and plays guitar and hand percussion.

Martin & Lucas are mainstays of the Patchogue area’s thriving music scene.

Each has a day job—Michele works as a property manager in the Hamptons and Steve works for a state agency—but they also perform regularly at local venues, including JT’s Cafe in Blue Point, Five Points Cafe in Sayville, and Moriches Field Brewing Company in Center Moriches.

They were also on the bill recently at Heckscher Park in Huntington as part of the Huntington Summer Arts Festival. They performed the entire Bruce Springsteen album “Born in the USA.”

“We play where we can and we have fun doing it,” Steve said.

Thursday will be their second appearance at the Patchogue Theatre’s Alive in the Lobby. They also performed there last year.

“We’re just honored to be part of Alive After Five and the historic Patchogue Theatre,” said Steve, who remembers going there in the late 1980s when it was a movie house.

If you come for the free performance on July 25, you can expect to hear the duo’s acoustic interpretation of songs by artists like Pearl Jam, Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac.

Michele called Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks “a huge influence of mine.”
