Lacrosse fundraiser is a ‘community’ event

This Saturday, March 1, there will be a fundraiser for the Bayport-Blue Point girls lacrosse program at Momo’s Too in Bayport, located at 667 Montauk Highway, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“With such dedicated parents and student-athletes, we are so honored to be chosen as the location for this fundraiser,” said Rich Comunale, owner of Momo’s Too. “We are dedicated to helping our community and offer whatever support we can for the causes that are important to our friends and neighbors.”

“The student-athletes that represent BBP have grown their skills and love of the game through a strong BBP youth lacrosse program, which is spearheaded by parents that volunteer their time as coaches.  They eventually get to the high school level and get exceptional coaching and leadership.  This is the core of lacrosse in our community and the foundation of our past success,” said Jennifer Meyn, an event organizer.

This fundraiser was started three years ago by lacrosse athlete parents Meyn and Tina Brown.

“We get a ton of help and support from the varsity and JV teams. Every year the fundraiser grows, and we are so happy with the community support. We have countless local businesses, families, and alumni who donate and attend. It’s great to see all the familiar faces, mingle, and enjoy the event,” said Meyn.

“This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community businesses who give back. Starting with MOMO’s, who is so good to us, down to all the restaurants and businesses who donate gift cards and merchandise.”

The event helps raise funds to cover expenses for the team to compete off Long Island, as well as cover other essentials that come up for the team during the season.

“I think this community knows these are good girls doing great things. Every girl in the program is a hardworking kid—some will have kids eventually in the program. There is no shortage of helpful families on our team—some that are already working on taking this event over and keeping it going when us senior families are gone,” said Meyn.
