Lots of fun and healthy activities are planned for the first-ever Family Olympics and Health Fair at Rider Avenue Park in Patchogue on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, Greater Patchogue Foundation, and the Village of Patchogue are teaming up for the event, which promises fun for the entire family with everything from a bubble-gum blowing contest to wheelbarrow races. A tug-of-war and kickball tournament are also planned.
The free event is the idea of Theresa Cordova, who chairs the Greater Patchogue Foundation’s Fitness and Wellness Committee. Cordova, who owns Gem Fitness in Oakdale, organized a similar event for her family a while back and it was so popular, she thought it would be a great idea to make it a community-wide event.
It will be “a fun day to highlight fitness and wellness,” she said.
Mike Cirigliano, of the chamber’s Family Fun Committee, said the activities are for people of all ages and for parents and grandparents, as well as kids. The day will be capped off by handing out awards and with closing ceremonies.
In addition to the activities, there will be food for sale at the park concession stand and health screenings available from various health care organizations.
The event is free to attend and advanced registration isn’t required, except for the kickball tournament. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/920232529267?aff=oddtdtcreator
The organizers are also seeking additional vendors and sponsors. Sponsorships range from $250 to $1,000. For information, email gpffitnessandwellness@gmail.com or call (631) 312-3350.
