False shooting reported in Sayville

Posted

A 911 call was made at 7:08 pm, Wednesday, March 15 requeting police presence at a residence at Canterbury Drive in Sayville as a domestic dispute with gunshots purportedly fired in the vicinity.

Officers were dispatched and determined the allegations of a shooting were unfounded.

Given the incident’s proximity to Sayville Middle School on Johnson Street, Sayville school district superintendent, Dr. Marc Ferris, sent out communication to parents later that evening that “Alledgly, a false call was made to the police, reporting a shooting that was not real.”

The email from Ferris went on to say that a SWAT team responded, but that officials from the Suffolk County Police Department’s 5th Precinct “informed me that none of our students are or were in danger.”
