The Bay Area Friends of Fine Arts held their annual elementary and middle school art show for Sayville and Bayport-Blue Point districts at the BAFFA Gallery in the Gillette House in downtown Sayville on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.

Seventy-five elementary students and 60 middle school students were chosen for each district to be featured in the show.

“Every year, young artists from Bayport-Blue Point and Sayville display their artwork at the BAFFA gallery. This is one of my favorite shows that BAFFA hosts. From the artwork of pre-schoolrs through fifth grade, there is a wide variety of talented young artists. I am always impressed by the quality and technique these children show at such a young age,” said Jeanette Rusy, gallery director.

Rusy also remarked at the great enthusiasm teachers bring to the event, cheering on the young artists every step of the way.

“Each spring, BAFFA is both proud and honored to be able to highlight, recognize, and encourage our student artists. We do this by exhibiting their artwork at the BAFFA art gallery. It is a joy for us to watch the excitement and pride on the faces of the students and their families, as they not only find their artwork, but the artwork of their friends,” said Donna Smosky, president of BAFFA.

Next month, on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, BAFFA will host a juried art show for high school artists.

The invitational has become a prestigious event for the 11 different high schools that participate. In addition to recognizing winners in several categories, the high school show presents almost $5,000 in prizes from different art groups and individual patrons of the arts.

“By providing these opportunities, BAFFA helps cultivate the next generation of artists, enriching the cultural landscape of Long Island. The exhibitions are free to the public and encourage community engagement and appreciation for student art,” said Smosky.
