Center Moriches resident and owner of Custom Art Products, Ted Kole, launched a “Cancer Sucks Hope Helps” product brand name with a website focused on fundraising.
He calls it “fashion with a purpose,” with a plan to donate up to 30 percent of the proceeds from all sales of his products, retail or wholesale.
He also recently secured an endorsement and collaboration with the New York Cancer Foundation to create and launch a new donation raising online merchandising website.
“Ted has been incredibly committed to this project and we can’t thank him enough for being so giving of his time!” said Tina Toulon, executive director of NYCF. “He really has brough this to life and we are honored to be a part of it! The more money we can raise, the more families we can help.”
The brand, he said, was created with a mission to raise attention and donate a portion of the proceeds from every sale to the New York Cancer Foundation to support their effort to provide financial assistance grants for non-medical expenses and transportation grants to qualifying patients who are undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis in New York State.
As a cancer patient himself, he fought kidney cancer in 2017, which then metastasized to his lungs.
“With a newfound sense of purpose and desire to merchandise product with a give-back, Cancer Sucks Hope Helps was born,” he said of his journey. “Not just out of hardship, but out of resilience—a rallying cry for every person fighting, healing, surviving, and hoping.”
The launch of his CancerSucksHopeHelps.com website coincided with the NYCF seventh annual Raising Hope Golf Classic this past Aug. 18 at Nissequogue Golf Club, in St. James. This month, he will also be promoting his website and products at their next event, Run the Vineyards 8K/5K event, at Pindar, on Oct. 5.
The New York Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that offers financial assistance grants for non-medical expenses and transportation grants to qualifying patients who are undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis in New York State.
“Whether you’re a patient, a caregiver, or someone walking beside a loved one through the storm, you are not alone,” he added. “See light through darkness. Rally strength to fight. Reach for positivity, not pity.”
