Pat DeMartino was born in Maine and grew up in Brooklyn. She joined the United States Navy at 17 to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She served during the Korean War as a nurse in St. Albans. She lived in California and Las Vegas as well. One fond memory she said was a time when she babysat for entertainer Wayne Newton while he was performing. As a roller-skating waitress, she met her husband, Charles DeMartino, and they were married in 1962. Charles worked for Eastern Airlines at JFK International Airport. They settling in Dix Hills and had two daughters, Lynn and Patricia. Today, she loves to paint and crochet as a Brightview Sayville resident.
