Sayville varsity boys basketball has had a strong 2023-24 campaign and have been a fierce contender in Suffolk County League V. The Golden Flashes regular season league record was 10-6 and their overall record was 12-8.

They finished in third place in their ambitious division, which consists of nine teams. The season began just after Thanksgiving. In the inaugural game of the 2023-24 campaign, Sayville hosted West Babylon on Thursday, Nov. 30.

They made short work of the Eagles, monopolizing them 66-30 on Brook Street. A couple days later, they fell to Sachem East 62-58 on the road in overtime. Three days after that, they beat East Islip 39-27. Following the dozen-point victory at home, they hosted and won two more home roundball contests after they upended Hampton Bays by 10 points and downed Islip by three. Sayville lost two consecutive tough games to the Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms and the Kings Park Kingsmen.

Subsequent to the two losses, a three-game winning streak ensued vs. three division opponents in League V. The Golden Flashes beat the Harborfields Tornadoes by 11, won a neck-and-neck matchup vs. the Mount Sinai Mustangs 68-66 on Jan. 4, then eclipsed the Miller Place Panthers 76-58.

Sayville was dominated by the Wyandanch Warriors 59-39 on Jan.12. Sayville beat Hampton Bays, fell to Elwood John Glenn, then obtained a spirited victory at the Islip Buccaneers when Brian Haselton nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer, giving Sayville a 49-46 thrilling road win vs their division foe.

Sayville got their vengeance on Kings Park on Saturday, Jan. 27, in a 53-46 home win, and that win punched Sayville’s ticket to the postseason. It was their 10th win of the year and solidified a playoff berth. Sayville beat Harborfields by 5 points, then two days later lost to Mount Sinai by 15 and were triumphant vs. Miller Place winning on the road, 60-44.

Sayville lost to Wyandanch 49-44 on Senior Night in West Sayville on Friday, Feb. 9, then wrapped up the regular season at Elwood John Glenn on the 13th and lost 50-47. In the first round of the Suffolk County basketball playoffs, Sayville will face Wyandanch at Wyandanch this Saturday at noon.
