The Islip United Methodist Church held its bi-annual yard sale on its rain date, April 27, after a wet Saturday the day before. Those who stopped by 350 Main Street in Islip got to shop and make an offer on a variety of items.
Upon conclusion of the yard sale, the church raised just over $2,500.
One of the church’s bigger projects this year includes the addition of accessible bathrooms for those with disabilities. In addition, the Islip United Methodist Church also supports a food pantry for individuals in need.
The yard sale is done twice a year, once at the beginning of fall and once in the spring. Each gives an opportunity for residents who want to declutter and donate items, or those who are interested in buying a second-hand item to make their way to the church.
Resident Nancy Vazquez is a member of the church who was selling her handmade crafts. She sold a variety of suncatchers that were made out of CDs, tin plant holders, and plants that she germinates. At the fall and Christmas sale the church organizes, Vazquez sells honey produced by her bees.
A variety of furniture was also available for sale, such as wooden chairs, tables, coffee tables and sofa chairs. One of the larger items sold was a grandfather clock.
A date for the fall yard sale has not been set. The church’s thrift shop is open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
