Trust Bellport Village to come out en masse for a parade, specifically, the Easter Bonnet Crazy Hat Parade, on Saturday.
Some, like Pat Pagnotta from Park Slope, made a statement with her “Fearless Women Make History” sign and hat. Bellport High School junior Kacey Kokell was a trooper, appearing in costume as the Easter Bunny. Olga Guevara of Bellport spent a month working on her imaginative towering hat, with Peter Rabbit on top of his book surrounded by butterflies. (Guevara got a heads-up from a lot of people; she comes every year.) Georgia Korelis-Graziano showcased her 4-month-old dog, Daisy. (Hold that pose!) Bellport Firefighter of the Year Award recipient Nadine DiDio posed with mayor Maureen Veitch. Bellport chamber member Paul Quinn, of The Sitting Ducks band, provided the joyful “Easter Parade” music. Everyone strolled down to the village gazebo after firefighter Rich Terwilliger steered the antique fire truck down the street. What a family! Adelaide Elsie McCarthy posed with her uncle Liam’s dogs, Maverick and Koda. Sami Thompson won second place with her carousel hat; she won a prize from Summer Salt. Poppy Thompson won Honorable Mention and a prize from TOLA. Bellport chamber co-president LuAnn Thompson said many more prizes were handed out this year; Pamela Lerner Home & Antiques, Summer Salt, Bellport General Store, and TOLA were among the generous merchants who provided gift baskets.
