West Islip’s homecoming filled with sun and school spirit

West Islip pride was on full display during the school district’s homecoming festivities on Oct. 28. Kicking off with a homecoming parade, community groups and school organizations joined together to march down Higbie Lane to West Islip High School. The streets were lined on both sides as board of education members, administrators, youth football and cheerleading teams, homecoming floats, the marching band and the homecoming court made their way down the parade route.

Back at the football field, the floats—themed after the four seasons—made their way around the track. The junior class was named the winner with their winter-themed float.

The West Islip Lions football team were matched up against the Centereach Cougars for the big game. The matchup was an even one, as both teams scored quickly in the first quarter and remained close at the half. But the Lions put on the pressure and ultimately came out with a big homecoming win, defeating the Cougars 35-27.

The halftime show was filled with talented performances by the marching band, kickline and cheerleaders, who entertained and engaged the crowd.
