Student art showcases dedication, promise

The Bay Area Friends of Fine Arts held their annual Middle School Exhibition at the Gillette House in Sayville this weekend, Saturday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.

Students from James Wilson Young Middle School and Sayville Middle School had their artwork, ranging from graffiti art to self-portraits, to Japanese-inspired pieces, on display.

Samantha Burns, an art teacher from James Wilson Young, said that students in this stage of their art journey typically have reticence to branch out and individualize their work and tend to focus on mastering the genre as they see from more developed artists.
