Suzanne McKenna Link wrote “Finding Edward” over the last year, scheduling the book’s release before the wave of the current pandemic crashed over the world. The story follows Edward, a 20-something Long Islander, who after the death of his beloved grandmother, learns his deadbeat dad is not his biological father. His grandmother’s inheritance comes with conditions. He must travel to Italy in search of his patriarchy, and upon his return, the money is to be used to better his future. His grandmother requests he pursue a route to a life he has denied himself: his passion and talent for art.
Edward’s journey begins on the Amalfi Coast, in the town of Positano. After a few pitfalls, he meets and is welcomed by a cast of colorful and animated characters who set the tone for the adventures to come. Befriended by an Italian woman doctor who sets his heart on fire, Edward gets an insider’s view of the life and traditions of the townspeople. One of them, a famous local artist, inspires Edward to reflect on the events that have steered him away from following his own dream of being an artist.
Readers have described “Finding Edward” as heartfelt, emotional, upbeat and with a few surprises.
“I hope the story’s light-heartedness combined with scenic descriptions of Italy’s southern regions and its charming people will lift readers’ spirits as we wait for more normalcy to return to our days,” McKenna Link said of her book. “I’ve toured Italy twice, and I look forward to going back as soon as possible. There’s just something magical about the place, its history and its people. In essence, ‘Finding Edward’ is a love story. Edward reconnects with his love of art and also falls in love. But for me, writing this book, it became about my appreciation for that country. It’s a love story about Italy.”
