Long Island’s first drive-through coronavirus test site opened earlier this week at Jones Beach State Park.

The sites allow qualified professionals to swab people who suspect they have the virus without overwhelming hospitals and doctor’s offices. According to Gov. Andrew Cuomo there are plans to launch more sites in New York including Suffolk County.

For information on how to make an appointment call the New York State Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Hotline at 1-888-364-3065.

Testing in Suffolk County

The county is currently working with New York State to create a mobile testing site to launch shortly, at a to be announced site.

At this point, Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone said, it’s unclear how far the virus is spread in local communities simply due to the lack of broad testing.

“The numbers are going to continue to rise,” he added explaining that testing is going to be ramped up. “Testing is one of our most powerful tools.”

The mobile testing site will, hopefully, be up and running later this week. Testing criteria: residents will be able to call a number and get triaged by nurse who will get sense of what the symptoms are to make a determination. Test results will be given within 2-3 days.

SMART 911
Suffolk County has launched smart 911 so that families and individuals, allowing those at greatest risk to provide critical information to first responders. Also, residents can text COVIDSUFFOLK to 67283 for the latest updates and health guidance.
