It has been a good season for the Flying Dutchmen Drill Team of the West Sayville Fire Department, with four tournament victories: Long Island Invitational Champions, Suffolk County Champions, Riverhead Invitational Champions and Islip Town Champions. The four wins in 2019 increased the team’s total tournament victory count to 188 since first engaging in firematic competition in 1892, and helped lead them to their 34th Suffolk County Championship and 24th Islip Town Championship.  All of this hard work resulted in an additional 54 contest and tournament total points trophies and 45 leg trophies being added to the already crowded shelves of the team’s trophy collection.  The Flying Dutchmen received the accolades for its season performance at the annual awards and installation dinner of the Suffolk County Firemen’s Parade and Drill Team Captains’ Association, where the team earned seven awards.
