Bittersweet ending to season, but heads held high

Posted

While it was a tough loss for the Bayport-Blue Point boys varsity basketball team on Saturday, March 2 against Southampton with a final score of 60-42, the season ended with an impressive overall record of 18-5 and a league record of 12-2.

Coach Charlie Peck said, “It was a strong team that worked incredibly hard. We will rebuild next season, but I am so proud of what they accomplished.”

Players also echoed Peck’s sentiments and concluded the season on a note of pride.

“We have been doubted all season, and where we are now just shows what type of team we are. From where we started to now has been such a great turnaround, and we plan to just keep going from there. I knew this team was going to be special, but actually seeing the results makes it even better,” said senior team captain, Brendan Waters.

“Every game means something. Everyone on this team has something or someone to play for, and we’ve had a chip on our shoulder all season. These past two games we’ve been firing on all cylinders. It doesn’t matter what quarter, what play, what possession. All five guys on the court are giving it their all no matter what. It’s really special,” said fellow senior and captain, Mikey Luce.
